The British Underground Press of the Sixties (with James Birch)

This is the catalogue of an exhibition that James Birch and I put on at James’s Gallery A22 in October 2017. It was the fiftieth anniversary of the so-called ‘summer of love’ and we thought that documentation of the underground press was overdue. (In fact James, Andrew Wilson and I had discussed a similar exhibition 17 years earlier). The catalogue reproduces all the covers and most of half and quarter issues of IT, Oz, Ink, Friends/Frendz, Gandalf’s Garden, cOZmic Comics and Nasty Tales as well as reproducing many of the in-house graphics from OZ and IT: headed paper, ad-rate cards, inserts, press releases, tickets and flyers. It’s available from Britishundergroundpress.com (directly from the publisher) and Amazon sales.
