Waiting for Ed Maggs at the Academy Club on Lexington Street. A man near retirement age greets his friend with whom he is going to have lunch. He explains that he must not drink too much because he is going to meet his nephews from school afterwards and ‘to have a rocking figure of carnival in the playground just wouldn’t do.’ He offered his friend a drink with the words, ‘Can I get you a beneficial supplement?’ Ed arrives and quickly orders a bottle of white to accompany starters and a ‘Bottle of Gig’ for the main course; Gigondas, the peppery wine from Provence.
